What is a School-based Technology Specialist? The title has many definitions depending where and who you ask. At the higher education level, degree programs in instructional technology have a tendency to be concentrated in curriculum and instruction by design. At the technical/vocational college level, few programs exist for this purpose, and candidates are not considered for school positions based on credentials anyway.
While many schools today are struggling to understand and implement technology, a real lack of understanding for the Instructional Technology Specialist position is apparent. In many cases, an already too busy teacher, administrator, or media specialist with intermediate or advanced computer skills, volunteers or is mandated to fill the role of technology coordinator. Thanks to the hard work of these people though, many schools have forged ahead and have implemented a technology-rich environment. |
