Title: Florida-”The Sunshine State of Excitement”

Short Description:
This lesson is designed in an effort to educate, familiarize, and EXCITE, students about this great state in which we live. This lesson will give students an appreciation for people of different cultures and will also introduce them to the governmental structure of our state. After the completion of this lesson, students should also have a better knowledge base of Florida’s vast resources(fish, wildlife, cattle, sports,citrus). Approximate Time Required: Three Weeks


Gain Attention: The teacher may opt to introduce this lesson by way of the attached Powerpoint presentation. While somewhat entertaining, the presentation gives students a good idea as to what will be covered in the lesson.

 

Tasks:
After the teacher has introduced the unit, the students will then be assigned to groups in order to research each individual topic. Students wii be required to submit a written report as well as a multimedia presentation(Hyperstudio, Powerpoint, MP Express.) Students can use various resources to accomplish this task. The resources might include the following: internet, Compton’s Interactive Encyclopedia(CD- Rom), Textbook(Florida), media center, classroom library, Archives of History(CD-Rom).
