This lesson is designed to cover Chapter 4 in “Addison-Wesley Chemistry” as part of a Pre-International Baccalaureate Chemistry Course. The lesson will take about two weeks and includes a Tutorial, Practice Questions, two Laboratory Experiments, and a Web exercise. This is where I start the course, so some elementary concepts need to be introduced as well.
The TUTORIAL is in Hyperstudio and a Viewer Program is needed to use it. A link for the download is included. The TUTORIAL can be shown on a big screen TV during class as a lecture aid or can be viewed by students at home as a reference.
The PRACTICE QUESTIONS are also in Hyperstudio and use the same viewer. A discussion of the answers is not immediately visible, but can be seen by scrolling down the page.
I use the cathode ray tube as a demonstration and not as a lab. The two labs are for identification of cations and anions. The concept of ions needs to be covered in lecture. The Power Point Lab Presentations can be used for pre-lab and made available during the labs for student reference.
My schedule and homework assignments are included, but as mentioned earlier the assignments are for Addison-Wesley.
