Title: Invertebrates

Technology Resource Requirements:

Subject Area: Science

Grade Level: 7

Short Description:

As part of a unit on invertebrates students will work in cooperative teams to dissect an earthworm using proper laboratory procedures. Students may opt to use virtual dissection.

Students will record information in a database

Students will be able to locate and name 10 different organs in the typical earthworm

Approximate Time Required: 2-3 periods

Activities:

  1. Pre-lab
  2. Introduce by using a KWL discussion of the earthworm.
  3. Using a dissected earthworm model, textbook, and/or internet sources students will draw and label earthworm and
  4. targeted organs.
  5. Teacher reviews safety procedures for lab
  6. Teacher reviews database with students
  7. lab
  8. Students will work in teams to dissect their earthworm, following their dissection plan and entering data in database
  9. follow-up/assessment
  10. Students complete review sheet
  11. Students will compare their prelab drawings with their data gathered during the actual lab.
