Lesson Plan
Title: THIS IS ME!
Technology Resource Requirements:
Subject Area(s): Language Arts
Grade Level: 6- 8
Short Description:
Students will create an autobiography which will encourage students to think
and write about themselves. They will follow the teacher-created rubric using
Clarisworks slideshow, Hyperstudio, or Powerpoint and present the material to
the class.
Approximate Time Required: 5 to 6 days to prepare the presentation
Gain Attention: Students should be able to discuss significant events
in their life and their career goals for the future.
Tasks:
1. Students write a storyboard with information and a sketch of the graphic
to be used on each slide.
2. Students create slides with the following information:
a. Title
b. Date of birth
c. An event in history that occurred on the date of your birth (use www.historychannel.com
to find this event)
d. Weight at birth
e. City and state where you were born
f. Members of your family
g. Favorite toy when you were a child
h. Pet in the family
i. Two milestones in your life (significant events that have impacted or changed
the course of your life)
j. Favorite pasttime
k. Career choice, and
l. About the author (include your picture taken with the Quickcam or Digital
camera).
In addition, graphics appropriate to the slide are to be included.
Interactions:
The teacher will present the lesson on creating Hyperstudio, Powerpoint or
Clarisworks slideshow. Students will work alone but will present their autobiography
lesson to the class.
Assessments: A teacher-created rubric would include the number of slides needed, a minimum font size for students to use, correct spelling and punctuation, and a grade for overall appearance and presentation to the class. A sample rubric for a Hyperstudio presentation is linked.
