GETTINGTARTED:

1. Open AppleWorks. Click on WORD PROCESSING. Click OK.

2. Pull down FILE menu, choose Page Setup. Click on Wide (landscape) orientation. Click OK.

3. Pull down FORMAT menu. Choose Document.
Type in .3” on top margin. (It’s highlighted-you don’t need to delete first).
Using tab key (on left side of keyboard), and tab to each of the other three margins and type in .3”. Do not change anything else. Click OK.

4. NOW YOU ARE READY TO CREATE YOUR SLIDES:
(Don’t worry about the background, you can choose that later.)

    • Type some letters (any five will do)
    • Highlight those letters. (Click the mouse behind the last letter and drag back.)
    • Pull down the SIZE menu and choose 72 points. (At least 48 points).
    • Pull down the FONT menu and choose desired font.
    • Click on the color palette and choose the color for the font. ( The color palette for the text is located at the top of the screen, in the bottom of the Button Bar).
    • In the left bottom corner, click on the “small mountain” twice to 50%.
    • Leaving the letters highlighted, type your name or a title on the first slide (the first page of our word processing document.)
    • Leaving the cursor behind the last word, pull down the FORMAT menu. Choose Insert Page Break.
    • Type in “Page Two”. Pull down FORMAT menu. Choose Insert Page Break.
    • Repeat for every slide, naming them “Page Three”, etc. until you have at least seven slides.
5. TO ADD A GRAPHIC:
  • Pull down WINDOW menu. Choose Show Tools.
  • Double-click on arrow in tool box.
  • Pull down FILE menu. Choose Library and drag mouse to “Sea Creatures”.
  • When the graphic window appears, drag the window to the side, off the slide.
  • On “Sea Creatures” window, pull down VIEW, and choose “By Object”.
  • Click on the desired graphic and drag it to the slide.
6. To CHANGE THE SIZE of the graphic:
  • Click on the Arrow Tool in the Tool Box.
  • Click on the graphic to activate the “handle bars” on the corners.
  • With the Arrow Cursor, click on the “handle bar” in the bottom right corner of the graphic and drag it diagionally (in or out) to change size.
7. To MOVE the graphic:
  • Click on the Arrow Tool in the Tool Box.
  • Click the Arrow Cursor in the middle of the graphic and drag the graphic to the desired position.
8. To SET UP AND RUN the Slide Show:
  • Pull down the WINDOW menu. Choose Slide Show.
  • Click on “Fit to screen”, “Center”, and “Show cursor” if they are not clicked.
  • Click on “Fade”, and “Loop”.
  • Click on “Advance”. Type in “4” for the amount of time.
  • Click on “Background”, and choose color or pattern from the palette.
  • Click on Start.
9. To STOP the Slide Show:
  • Press “esc” (escape) on the top, left side of the keyboard.
  • Click on “Done”.
