Strand: Measurement
Benchmark: MA.B.3.1.1 Grade 1 Using a variety of strategies, estimates length, widths, time intervals, and money and compares them to actual measurements.
Standard: Estimates and measures the passage of time using before or after; yesterday, today, or tomorrow; day or night; morning, afternoon or evening; hour or half hour.
Benchmark: MA.B.4.1.2 Grade 1 Selects and uses appropriate instruments, such as scales, rulers, clocks, and technology to measure within customary or metric systems.
Standard: Knows appropriate tools (clocks) for measuring time (including days, weeks, months).

Short Description:
The purpose of this unit is to tell time to the hour and half hour, and solve problems involving time. Students will do these things by using a variety of appropriate tools such as clocks and computers.

Have students discuss what they already Know about Time. List their thoughts on chart paper or in a KWHL diagram in the software program Inspiration or Kidspiration.
Next list What they want to know. Then How they will accomplish these things. At the end of the unit you will complete the last part, What did you Learn?
Students will make their own clock by using a paper plate, construction paper, and brass fastener. Teacher will guide students how to cut out clock hands and writing the numbers on a clock. Students will then fasten hands of clock to plate using the brass fasten. Keep this clock for various other activities throughout the two weeks.
