Standards:

MA.B.1.4.1 - Use concrete and graphic models to derive formulas for finding perimeter, area, surface area, circumference and volume of two and three dimensional shapes including rectangular solids, cylinders, cones, and pyramids.

MA.B.3.4.1 - Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving estimates of measurement, including length, time, weight/mass, temperature, money, perimeter, area, and volume and estimate the effects of measurement errors on calculations.

Lesson Plan:

Title: Geometric Solids

Technology Resources Required: Calculator, Computer with a projection system or TV adapter.

Subject Area: Mathematics

Grade Level: 9-12

Short Description: This lesson is to be used as a supplement to a lesson on Geometric Solids. Students will solve FCAT style questions on finding the volume and surface area of geometric solids.

Approximate Time Required: 4-5 days

Day1: Give students the competency matrix. When completed, give students a Pretest.

Day 2: Return the scored Pretests to students and plot scores on a scatterplot. This graph will be used to compare scores on the Posttest to scores on the Pretest. Show the Power Point Presentation.

Day 3: Complete more practice problems.

Day 4: Post Test
